My wife and I spotted your restaurant several months ago while visiting my wonderful home town of Mobile. I suggested that I thought there might be some awesome BBQ in that place, so we agreed to visit on our way home. We weren't disappointed. Your barbeque was the best I've ever had...and I haven't eaten much BBQ that I didn't love. I've visited many, many BBQ places around the southeast while roaming on my motorcycle and I can honestly say, without hesitation, that you have the best I've ever eaten. I/we will be back!

My family will be traveling thru your city on March 18th around 6 to 8 pm and plan on eating at your restaurant for dinner. Your BBQ is on my BBQ bucket list of must have before I pass on… But I am concerned if you could run out of meat. It has happened in the past with other famous BBQ restaurants. We will have 3 eating in and I plan on getting a couple of pounds of port to go. Do you think I will have any issues with supply? Also, I couldn’t find what hours you are open on your website. Look forward to meeting you and your staff. Thanks. I will also like or friend your facebook whatever options I have.

My bride and I got there a little early and they weren't open yet. Bill himself came over to the car and spoke with us and asked "Ya'll want bar-b-que for breakfast?" and I said "Sure doesn't everybody?" Just an example of how personable and nice the folks here are. We got back after a drive around downtown and Bill talked with us while he waited for the lunch rush to start. He gave us a tour of the place and showed us several pics of celebrities, public and sports figures who love his que. A nicer more personable person anyone would be hard put to find anywhere. The que does not disappoint. Sauce is slightly tangy, not overwhelming. The ribs were competition perfeft, Cleanly coming off the bone but not falling off. (Falling off is overcooked.) The chicken was tender and juicy, and the pulled pork was melt in your mouth. Great beans and slaw. Wish I had left room for the "nanna puddin". Next time Bill, next time.

Wow, Going to this restaurant for their food was well worth the drive from Tallahassee, Florida to Mobile, Alabama. The food was absolutely delicious. Thanks to the travel channel for this amazing information (top 10 best barbeque) restaurants. They made the list at number eight (8). There were absolutely no complaints from my stomach nor from my parents who also were the proud recipients of this amazing food. Everything was great from the atmosphere to the personnel and not to mention the food. Will see big red on my next adventure.

Regardless of your BBQ style preference, The Brick Pit is the best smokehouse in the country. The authentic smokey flavor yet tender and juicy ribs and pulled pork are amazing. The Brick Pit is unmatched by Texas or Kansas City.

My husband and I are from Mobile and we eat at the Brick Pit every time we come home to visit. It's right up there with raw oysters and REAL seafood as a food crave I MUST satisfy before leaving the city. I really don't think that there is anywhere else in the world that can rival the Brick Pit's Bar-B-Que! Keep making us proud. We love ya'll and miss you more than you'll ever know!

I've found heaven on earth. If you like BBQ, this is where it's done RIGHT. The old fashion way - LOW AND SLOW. If you're going anywhere near Mobile, AL, this is a must stop.

We wanted to try real Southern barbeque and the Brick Pit was perfect! The pork sandwich was delicious with the slightly tangy, spicy sauce and the distinct smokey flavor of the pork. The banana pudding was phenomenal! Most of all, customer service was excellent, to the waitstaff and the owner who were all extremely friendly and attentive. The owner was very kind and courteous and made our experience there even greater by taking the time to talk to us. We will certainly eat here again the next time we come down to Mobile!

Your BBQ stands alone. I only get back to Mobile once a year now that I am working in the Netherlands, but each journey home is that much sweeter sitting over a plate full of pulled pork and sweet tea. I have to stop. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. See you in early June!

I have been a Chef int the Mobile area for some fourteen years, and own a restaurant a mile away from the Brick Pit. I can tell you- no doubt, this man produces the best BBQ in the region. He is dogmatic in his approach and stellar with results. the restaurant is a halmark of Mobile. Make it a point to eat there.

Located on Old Shell Road, west of 65, the Brick Pit has been serving quality BBQ for 4 decades. The rustic, but friendly décor inside welcomes you to a place where you can tell things are simple and tasty. The pulled pork plate is an ample amount of food for the hungry diner and includes your choice of regular or spicy BBQ sauce, a thick piece of Texas toast, and a choice of two side items. The chunks and strings of pork meat are succulent and flavorful. One can taste the effort made by pitmaster Bill Armbrecht in his large cooker behind the main building where he slow cooks all the meats at the lowest temperatures possible for plenty of time. The spicy sauce isnt what one would expect just a little more flavor and kick, not a ton of heat. The coleslaw is crunchy and fresh with a nice vinegar base and the toast is a perfect complement to soak up the leftover sauce with when your meal is almost over. The Brick Pit offers a rotating line of desserts including the highly touted banana pudding. The dining room is small and somewhat limited, but the service is quick and efficient. After paying for your meal (all major credit cards accepted), a server will usher your food and drink out to your table. While the Brick Pit does not sell alcohol, they do allow BYOB and more than a few patrons are known to hoist a cold one with their BBQ. Closed Sundays and Mondays, the Brick Pit is open until 8pm Tuesday through Thursday and until 9pm Friday and Saturday. 5456 Old Shell Road (Near University Blvd), Mobile, Alabama 36608. Brick Pit BBQ - Mobile [Photo] (5456 Old Shell Road 251 343-0001) Located under some beautiful live oaks in suburban West Mobile; slogan "It's Serious BBQ"; the lean pulled pork is the highlight; "It's not just chopped up mush" says owner Bill Armbrecht, who is damn proud of his product; slow cooked over a blend of hickory and pecan for up to 30 hours to create a nice smoky flavor; the chicken and ribs are also above average; Mama Dot's tangy BBQ sauce is outstanding; the recipe is a family secret; everything here is homemade except the sourdough, Texas-style bread served with each entree; the fresh, crispy cole slaw is superb and the baked beans taste great with a little Mama Dot's sauce mixed in; BBQ pork and chicken sandwiches are available in two sizes (regular and a smaller "Brick Bite"); wash it all down with a expertly brewed sweet tea with lemon, Coke or an ice cold longneck Budweiser; dessert specials change weekly; you may get lucky and hit them when they're offering Banana Pudding; a shady swing awaits out back following your meal; owner Bill Armbrecht is a huge Crimson Tide fan; a portrait of Bear Bryant hangs on the wall ... as does a huge sailfish (Armbrecht is an avid sportsman); Bill claims he opened the Brick Pit because he "got tired of not being able to go out and get really good smoked BBQ in Mobile"; patrons have left a variety of wacky messages in red marker all over the walls inside the restaurant; open for lunch and dinner Tuesday - Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday; the "This Ain't No Dream ... This is the Real Thing" sign out front is a tongue in cheek poke at the famous Dreamland BBQ company, which has moved into the Mobile market; the competition hasn't prevented the Brick Pit from being voted Best BBQ in Mobile for 3 years running; this is indeed "Serious BBQ" prepared with passion and attention to detail; highly recommended! Visit them online at www.brickpit.com.
